Shao Yang disharmony (1/2 interior, 1/2 exterior)
One of the most used formulas in clinical practice, Xiao Chai Hu Tang treats Shao Yang syndromes, which includes the Gallbladder and the San Jiao organ energetics
Indications
1. Alternating chills/fever, bitter mouth, dry throat, sore throat, blurred vision, chest/hypochondriac fullness, no appetite (moody), irritability, nausea, dizziness, thirst, poor digestion, 1/2 body cold, 1/2 body hot.
2. Malaria, jaundice and other interiorly induced disorders (ie: menopause)
Fullness and distention below the ribs and in the chest region. This can be physically or emotionally, where the patient feels subjective pain upon pressure in these areas.
Sensitive to temperature changes. This may feel like a underlying fever, alternating chills and fever, or be experienced as hot and cold at the same time, or even different body parts having different temperatures.
An appetite which is affected by the emotions, often leading to a dislike of eating with a need to vomit. The patient can also have a bitter taste in the mouth upon waking, and when eating.
Easily irritated, with the emotion felt in the heart.

This formula combines heat clearing herbs, with damp and phlegm transforming herbs and strongly tonify qi herbs to balance and clear the presenting complaints.
